Time to Go

January 13th, 2019

I took a cab downtown to the places we used to meet, Where I held your hand and swept you off your feet, And where the city lights seemed to dance just for us.
I took a walk along the river you and I used to love, Where all the benches were ones I'd written poems of, And where I could still taste the crimson of your lips
But time has grown in the memories we used to know, And it's time, darling, time for us both to go
We once held forever,
We wanted so much more,
But the future came and made a whore Of the love we thought we shared,
And without reprieve,
We'll take our leave
And sail off to solemn shores
I went through and read your old messages the other night, Times where we swore true love and the times we'd fight, When the assuaging light of honesty covered all our words
I listened to all the coldest songs that reminded me of you,
But they failed and faltered and now I can't remember what I knew, How infinity sparkled alive with every breath that we drew,
And time has grown in the memories we used to know, And it's time, darling, time for us both to go
We used to hold forever,
Now it's left us less than more,
Where the crystal night leaves us sore And uncomfortably aware.
The fog rolls in,
But hope spites sin
And twinkles once on distant shores
Time has grown in the memories we used to know, And it's time, darling.
It's time for us both to go.
