You Came Here

January 13th, 2019

You came here hoping to in God's grace
find green hillsides and tree-lined streets which your children could inherit.
You saw in Jefferson an unharvested jewel.
You waited for it to ripen to pick in late fall for waiting out the winter in mild rains & good hearth.
You hoped to find a path along the banks of the Sacramento to bring you meandering along natural majesty.
You saw Shasta's unspoiled meadows & canyons and they called to you from outside of time.
You came here to escape the helicopters and sirens.
You came here for cheap housing and an OK job. You came here to be near your family.
You came here to find something beautiful.
So did they.
